Linking Assets

Assets may be linked to each other to better track and group them. Parent-child hierarchies can be created with a single parent constraint.

To assign a parent Asset, select an Asset in the “Parent Asset Link” field of the Asset record. To assign child Assets, select Asset(s) in the “Child Assets Link.”

To link a Child Asset to a Parent Asset:

  1. Select the Asset you want to be a ‘child’ of another Asset.

  2. Click on Edit (upper right corner).

  3. Click on the spyglass to the right of the Parent Asset Link field.

  4. From the list, select the Asset ID of the Asset you want to be the ‘Parent.’

  5. Click Save.

  6. An Asset can only have one ‘Parent.’  If you try to select an additional Asset it will replace the first selected ID.

To link a Parent Asset to a Child Asset:

  1. Select the Asset you want to be the ‘parent’ of another Asset.

  2. Click on Edit (upper right corner).

  3. Click on the spyglass to the right of Child Asset Link field.

  4. From the list, select the Asset ID of the Asset you want to be the ‘Child.’

  5. You can repeat step 3 and 4 for as many times as you want to add ‘Children.’

  6. Click Save.

  7. An Asset can have multiple ‘Children.’  All created links will appear below the field.
